Health and Safety

Timebank Whakatū cares about your safety and that of other members. As such we conduct a couple of checks:

  1. Ministry of Justice criminal conviction history check: We will email you details on how to request this through the online platform.
Note: Criminal histories will be reviewed, in most cases, by a specific member of the Timebank Whakatū team (and if it needs to go any further, we will first get your permission). Alternatively, you can choose to have your criminal history reviewed independently by a Justice of the Peace. The information you provide will always be treated in the strictest confidence, and historic and minor offences will not automatically exclude membership. Please come and talk to us if you have any questions, or if there is anything here that you are unsure of.
If you have had a check completed within the last 6 months you can email this to vetting@timebankwhakatu.nz.
  2. Personal Referees: We will need the names and emails of two character / personal referees (not family unless you are under 18 or a dependent).

Please let your referees know we will be emailing them so they expect to hear from us (and in case the email ends up in their Junk folder). They will be sent a link to our online form to answer some questions which will only take a few minutes to complete.

Minors or those people who require supervision: Members under 18 years or those with a guardian will be accepted with the permission, supervision and signature of a parent/legal guardian.

Thank you!

Security and Privacy

Timebank Whakatū exists to create a community, connections and facilitate the sharing of skills to a diverse range of people, including those who may be considered vulnerable. We seek to ensure that members have personal standards of conduct and behaviour that do not put other members at risk or compromise the integrity of the Timebank. The questions below are intended to minimise such possibilities.

Please note that if you answer yes to any of these questions, it does not necessarily exclude you from being a member of the Timebank. (Request our membership policy for details if interested.)

Ministry of Justice: Criminal Conviction History check

Please note: you may be required to consent to disclosure of any information held about you by the New Zealand / Australian Police or Ministry of Justice.

You are not required to disclose convictions covered by the clean slate act unless you intend to provide support to Vulnerable Children. You can find out more information about the Clean Slate Act here: https://www.justice.govt.nz/criminal-records/clean-slate/.

Information provided will be treated in the strictest confidence and minor past criminal convictions will not necessarily prevent you from becoming a member of the Timebank Whakatū.

If you prefer, your criminal history could be reviewed by a Justice of the Peace rather than a timebank vetting admin.

Supporting skill sharing and timebanking exchanges

Timebanking is all about sharing what you can do with others and receiving help from others that they are skilled at, or find easy or enjoy! It is worth noting that some things we can do and may not think are important are exactly what other people need.

This section is an opportunity for you to consider what things / skills/ knowledge you may like to help others with and equally important what things / skills/ knowledge you might like to receive from others.

We suggest you:

  • Make offers based on skills or activities you already do, find easy or enjoy
  • Make requests based on skills or activities that would make your life easier or more enjoyable!

This can be:

  • broad or specific eg gardening vs fruit tree pruning
  • It can be equipment to share
  • activities you are good at, find easy and /or enjoy.
  • it could be a hobby, interests or skills you have learnt in the past or have currently

This can be broad or specific. Perhaps something that would make your life easier, save you time/ energy or make your life more enjoyable.

Get Involved!

The timebank is run by volunteers who dedicate some of their time to support members and make sure the timebank runs smoothly.

We can use ALL sorts of skills, put up posters, design, photos, event help, cooking, take tickets at movie fundraisers, teach workshops, be part of the steering committee or anything really!

Neighbourhood Support Database

The Neighbourhood support database is a register of near neighbours who can be called on in an emergency. This is a database with contact details that could be shared with a 'Community Leader' in your area, who will get in touch in the case of an emergency event. If you would like to be a part of the database then your details will be forwarded on to Neighbourhood Support, and potentially shared with a 'community leader' in your area.

What of the following lists do you have?

Urban Food Growing and Kai Security

We have a significant number of member groups involved in growing or rescuing food such as:

Victory Community Gardens, Urban Farmers, Compost Club, Waimarama Community Organic Gardens, Tahunanui Community Hub, Kai Rescue... the list goes on!

(Saying yes just means you may be contacted about groups connected with kai growing / food security.)
